BULGARIA'S CHANCE OF HOSTING WINTER OLYMPICS SMALL, ROGUE SAYS

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Jacques Rogue said to the Spanish El Mundo Deportivo Sofia stands small chance of hosting the Winter Olympics in 2014.

So far Austria’s Salzburg and Korea’s PyeongChang showed best organidation and facilities, Dnevnik newspaper reported. Rogue said he cannot confirm yet the short-listed candidate cities that will continue to the next selection round.

This week Korean authorities will select a company responsible for the construction of two skating rings. Another campaign for the renovation and modernisation of winter sports facilities will also begin. All work will be concluded before the IOC inspection of the condition of the infrastructure.

Salzburg mayor Heinz Schaden presented the city as the unquestionable leader in the competition last Tuesday.

Sofia is applying to host the Olympics with its winter sport facilities on Vitosha Mountain. Some of the facilities will also be located in Bulgaria’s leading winter resorts Bansko and Borovets.
