BULGARIA’S BERBATOV TO STAY WITH TOTTENHAM SPURS
11:32 Tue 28 Aug 2007

Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov has confirmed that he will remain with Tottenham, despite rumours that he was planning to leave for another team.

The striker’s agent Emil Danchev said on August 24 2007 that Manchester United had enquired about the striker’s availability, but the Bulgarian captain insisted he will stay with the Spurs.

“I chose to join Tottenham last season; now I’m staying at the club through my own free will. At least for now,” the 26-year-old Berbatov said to Bulgarian Football Weekly on August 27 2007.

“There has been a lot of speculation, but all I can say is that this saga has strengthened [Tottenham manager Martin] Jol’s position and that the club’s board decided to raise my salary. ... No one said that United didn’t have interest in me and my price in general but it has to be clear that there will not be a move for now.”

Berbatov joined Tottenham from Germany's Bayer Leverkusen in May 2006 and scored 12 league goals last season.
