Tottenham’s striker from Bulgaria Dimitar Berbatov was nominated for The Fédération International de Footballeurs Professionels (FIFPro) awards.
Berbatov was among the 55 male footballers nominated for the third FIFPro World XI Player awards, UK’s Daily Mail reported. The awards would be given to the best players in the 2006/2007 season.
Samuel Eto'o, Ronaldinho, John Terry, Wayne Rooney, Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi are some of the other nominees.
Out of the 55 nominees, almost all played in Italy, Spain and England, worldx1.fifpro.org said. Italian Milan had nine players in the list, UK’s Manchester United eight.
FIFPro World XI Player Awards are considered most valued by the players, because footballers themselves vote to choose the best players among them. The footballers have to choose four defenders, three midfielders, three forwards and a goalkeeper, thus forming the world’s dream team.
The awards will be announced on October 5 2007.
