A World Bank report shows tendency for decrease in corruption practices in Bulgaria.
The report named Anti-corruption in Transition: Who is Succeeding...and Why shows that corruption in Bulgaria has gone down in the period from 2002 to 2005.
According to analysis desire to join the EU as scheduled on January 1 2007 has motivated Bulgarian officials to work on more efficient anti-corruption measures.
Survey among company representatives showed that the number of bribes given in various spheres has decreased. Improvement was noticeable in customs, taxation and inspectorates, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported.
Measures aimed at unified collection of taxes and social insurances increased the compliance rate and in turn curbed corruption opportunities, the World Bank report said.
