Bulgaria will continue its participation in the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline project, Economy and Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov said.

The withdrawal of the state from the project company Transbalkan Oil Pipeline does not signify overall termination of the Bulgarian involvement, Ovcharov said.

Each country, taking part in the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis project, will determine on its own the companies that will participate, Ovcharov said. This right was guaranteed through the memorandum Bulgaria, Russia and Greece signed when the project was launched.

National gas supplier Bulgargaz is among the companies that will represent Bulgaria, Ovcharov said. It is one of the biggest infrastructure companies and has the resource needed for the construction of the pipeline, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.

The state ended its participation in Transbalkan Oil Pipeline as the project is currently entering the exploitation phase and such move was needed, Ovcharov said.
