In the coming three years The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will provide $ 8.8 million for AIDS prevention programmes in Bulgaria.
The Cabinet approved an agreement signed on January 9 2006 by Health Minister Radoslav Gaidarski, concerning the donation. Now the agreement has to get the approval of the National Assembly, the Bulgarian news agency reported.
Funds would be received for AIDS prevention and control programme implementation. Bulgaria already carried out the first stage of the project and received high evaluation for the achievements.
With previously received funds the country opened 10 AIDS prevention offices and 15 cabinets for anonymous consultations.
Bulgarian non-governmental organisations carried out different awareness campaigns among risk groups, including drug addicts and ethnic minorities.
