Bulgaria was ready to adhere the Kyoto Protocol which put emission limitation on greenhouse gasses. Bulgaria would commit to the long term European programme for controlling climate change, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin said.
Kalfin met with the head of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Alexander Bedritsky during his two-day visit to Bulgaria, the Foreign Ministry said.
Subjects of the meeting included co-operation opportunities between Bulgaria and WMO for the prediction of disasters and compensations for consequences of disasters.
The fight against climate changes was a matter of political measures and public support, Kalfin said.
The objective of the Kyoto protocol was the stabilisation of greenhouse gas concentration in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent human interference of the climate system.
A total of 169 countries and other governmental institutions have ratified the agreement in December 2006.
