Bulgaria will join the Council of the Europe’s campaign for the fight against violence targeting women and against domestic violence on March 8.
The campaign started on November 27, 2006 in Madrid and aimed at preventing human rights violation, Labour and Social Policy Minister Emilia Maslarova said.
The campaign will increase awareness of violence against women. It will also encourage EU countries to take effective measures in the sphere and provide treatment for the victims of domestic violence.
The Labour and Social Policy Ministry has already prepared its 2007 programme for fight against domestic violence, Maslarova said.
The ministry currently works on establishing a 24-hour telephone line aiding victims of domestic violence and on an information campaign directed to school-aged children.
