Bulgaria’s Cabinet allocated one million leva of financial aid to disaster victims in Bulgaria in the past several months.

The money would be divided between the victims of the floods in the Tsar Kaloyan municipality and those of the fires in the region of Haskovo, a Cabinet’s press release said.

Money will be provided to satisfy the need for vital necessities, potable water, bills, and provision of electrical appliances.

The financial aid will be granted to those on lists of people and families in need prepared by the respective municipalities and approved by directors of the local structures for social aid.

The list will include the specific needs of the victims based on an evaluation of the damages, and a suggestion for the amount of the financial aid.

After downpours on August 6 and 7 2007 in the municipality of Tsar Kaloyan, 27 houses were completely demolished, 183 were unsuitable for living and 330 were flooded. Eight people drowned. Another two people died in the fires in Topolovgrad municipality, near Haskovo, in the end of August.
