BULGARIA GAINS MORE THAN ROMANIA FROM TOURISM
09:03 Mon 17 Jul 2006

During the past summer season Bulgaria managed to gain nearly four times more than its neighbouring country Romania from tourism services.

The revenue reached nearly one billion euro, Darik Radio reported.

According to tourism experts Bulgaria offers cheaper packages and better services. The country also presents various entertainment opportunities, Serbian newspapers reported.

A Belgrade newspaper reported that Bulgaria and Romania were competing for international tourists, shortly before the expected EU entry of both countries.

Such competition led to poor relations between the two countries, when it came to tourism co-operation, Serbia media reported.

Problematic developments included warnings on the website of Romania’s foreign ministry concerning travel to Bulgaria.

The foreign ministry warned travelers to be careful when visiting Bulgaria. The country was placed in a ‘yellow’ warning zone, together with Iran.
