BULGARIA DECIDES ON VIGNETTE PRICES FOR EU HEAVY VEHICLES
17:16 Wed 19 Sep 2007

Bulgaria would present to the European Commission (EC) a suggestion for prices of vignettes for trucks and buses heavier than 12 tons by November 2007, Transport Minister Petar Moutafchiev said.

There were two versions for the calculation of the prices in 2008, he said as quoted by Focus news agency.

One possibility is for the current price of a daily vignette to remain unchanged, while the price of all other vignettes would rise.

The most likely calculation would be for the daily, weekly and monthly vignette prices to be decreased, while only the annual vignette price raises, Moutafchiev said.

The authorities were still to decide how to relate taxes and National Road Infrastructure Fund, Focus said.

Another matter to be decided was the prices for vehicles from other countries. According to Moutafchiev, prices should be the same for all countries outside the EU.

Moutafchiev said that vignette systems will probably remain in Bulgaria until 2010
