Environment and Water Affairs Minister Djevdet Chakurov awarded six journalists for excellent coverage of environmental issues.
The award ceremony was part of the celebrations of the June 5 World Environment Day, Focus news agency reported. The journalists were nominated in six different categories, including journalistic investigation, overall coverage and objective coverage of environmental issues. The awarded media include Bulgarian News Agency, Bulgarian National Radio, Sega newspaper and Darik Radio.
Chakurov said that environment protection would help the development of the specialised rather than mass tourism and would attract wealthier tourists. He added that environment preservation was of great importance as it included stable development of the places and conditions of work and living.
Other events, part of the June 5 celebrations, include an exhibition of books dedicated to environment protection, ecology lessons in schools and mass tree planting. Ecological forums to discuss soil erosion and selective refuse collection are also scheduled for today.
