Bulgaria and Romania would enter EU as scheduled on January 1 2007 but this was no reason for celebration as the two countries would have to deal with the toughest accession conditions ever, Associated Press said.
The European Commission (EC) was going to recommend the introduction of safeguard clauses if Bulgaria and Romania failed to reform their juridical and administrative systems, AP said quoting EUobserver.
Bulgaria and Romania met high number of the EC requirements according to the commission’s draft report.
Still some sectors remained worrying. EC would introduce measures to guarantee the EU proper functioning, if the two countries failed to improve the situation in the criticised fields, EUobserver said.
Bulgaria would enter the EU without the introduction of safeguard clauses, Bulgaria’s European Integration Minister Meglena Kouneva said.
