BULGARIA AGAINST EC’S PROPOSAL FOR ENERGY PRODUCTION AND SUPPLY SEPARATION
11:41 Tue 04 Dec 2007 - Elitsa Savova

Seven European countries, including Bulgaria, are against the European Commission (EC) proposal on the separation of production and supply of energy.

Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Slovakia did not agree with the EC’s desire to fragment big energy companies, Spanish news agency EFE reported.

The EC wanted to separate energy production from the management of supply networks, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) said.

The seven countries said that in the beginning of 2008 they would present an alternative proposal on stimulating competition in the sector.

Regardless of the disagreement of the seven, the EC’s proposal would be supported by most of the EU member states, including Italy, Poland, Spain and the UK, EFE said.
