Bulgaria achieved progress in some of the areas criticised most in the latest European Commission report on the country's readiness to join the EU, justice freedom and security commissioner Franco Frattini said.
Frattini is on a visit to Bulgaria. He already met Justice Minister Georgi Petkanov and Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev.
During an earlier meeting with Frattini President Georgi Purvanov said that Bulgaria would provide accurate information on all measures undertaken to deal with the critical areas.
The EC report listed fight against corruption and organised crime as inefficient. The report also suggested some measures for better work of the justice and home affairs sectors.
Bulgarian officials achieved progress in fulfilling goals listed in the government's action plan for meeting EU accession requirements, Frattini said.
Interior Ministry officials presented the latest developments in the fight against organised crime. Continuing the process was very important for efficient measures against crime and corruption, said Frattini.
