BSP EXPECTS SUPPORT FROM NDSV SPLINTERS
15:32 Tue 04 Dec 2007 - Elitsa Savova

Mihail Mikov, leader of the parliamentary group of the Coalition for Bulgaria said that he expected a new parliamentary group by former National Movement for Stability and Progress (NDSV) members of the Parliament (MPs), to support the ruling majority.

Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), member of the Coalition for Bulgaria, is one of the three parties in the ruling coalition, together with NDSV and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

On November 27 2007, NDSV management decided to expel four MPs from the NDSV parliamentary group and from the party. Nine other MPs left the party voluntarily afterwards. On December 3, one of the expelled, Atanas Shterev, said that the former NDSV MPs would form a parliamentary group by the end of the week.

Mikov was the second member of the BSP management, after party leader Sergei Stanishev, to hint that a new parliamentary group would be loyal to the ruling coalition, despite the fact that the splinter group itself had not made such announcements yet, mediapool.bg said.

The processes that take place in NDSV affect the entire parliamentary majority, Mikov said.

Mikov admitted that he has been in contact with former NDSV MPs and he expected them to maintain the “responsible participation” as they did until now.
