The low electoral activity in Bulgaria’s first members of European Parliament (MEP) elections failed surprising Brussels.
Figures met European expectations, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported quoting European Commission spokesperson Mark Gray.
Gray said that the situation was similar in 2004 when 10 Central European countries became EU member states and had to select their EP representatives.
Bulgaria registered electoral activity of 28.61 per cent in its May 20 MEP elections.
Alfa Research polling agency representative Boryana Dimitrova said that the percentage was the lowest electoral activity to be registered since the first free democratic elections were held in the country.
