British MP Stewart Jackson said that he would call for the government to veto the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to EU, The Evening Telegraph reported.
Jackson is alarmed by the increasing number of immigrants to his city of Peterborough.
Peterborough is one of the largest urban areas in the east of England. A lot of migrant workers moved to the city to take advantage of employment opportunities. The number of the immigrants from the newly-joined EU member countries raised more than 10 times after 2004, the newspaper reported.
Next year even more workers will migrate to EU countries after Bulgaria and Romania's accession.
"No one is against EU migrants, but the Government has to get a grip as it is causing friction in the community", Jackson said.
Peterborough is urging the government for more funds to cope with the increasing number of migrant workers.

![]() | Comments from MP for Peterborough are nothing but biased. There are I am sure thousands ob British people who cannot wait to go over to Bulgaria to stay as I myself have purchased a beautiful property to get away from the United Kingdom what a beautiful country it is we dont get this treatment in bulgaria we too have bombarded bulgaria and I dont hear a complaint from anyone - Get a grip MP no Veto required PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Role on the EU. I can understand the problem with Romania but Bulgaria is a great country its obvious that all the younger bulgarian will come over to work and send money home, the money they earn in bulgaria is now much - but we will go over and benefit from beautiful scenary and organic land BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY - most of nearly retired people have bought in bulgaria.
CANNOT WAIT FOR BULGARIA TO GET IN TO THE EU MYSELF !!!! THEN WE CAN STAY IN OUR HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!
WE LOVE BULGARIA | ![]() |

![]() | I am Irish not British but I see where he is coming from. Our government is also considering controls on Bulgaria and Romania because we have already seen over 200,000 Eastern Europeans from the new EU states e.g. Poland, coming here since 2004 when we let them in. No offence but Western countries have needs too. I would agree to let everyone in on one condition - that all Western EU states opened their borders. Sadly Germany, Austria, France, Denmark, Netherlands, and Luxembourg are refusing at this stage so why should Ireland? We are only a small country and don't want to be a minority here. | ![]() |

![]() | Hahaha, this is laughable. If UK and France complain about east-europeans going to their contries, EU should complains about UK and France giving passports to thousands of muslems and allowing terrorists to become EU citizens. Dear brit politicians, dont give me your problems, solve them yourselves as we do, dont bs your voters with false allarms. | ![]() |

![]() | It is only right that the British government treat Romanian and Bulgarian citizens the same as other EU member countries. There should not be a two tier status of citizens, the problem lies with the non European/Non Christian influx that has ocurred. I am married to a Bulgarian, I love the country and it's people and hope one day I will be able to retire there myself. I am sure that corruption will quickly be dealt with, and like many other British property investors I look forward to spending many years in a beautiful country. | ![]() |
