Boyana Film Studios director Evgeni Mihailov received the agreement for the privatisation of the studios and requested the resignation of Privatisation Agency head Todor Nikolov.
The agreement did not state clearly the manner in which the buyer of the film studios should participate in the creation of two Bulgarian films each year, Mihailov said.
In a five-year period the buyer needed to ensure the production of two Bulgarian films and of at least 20 minutes of animation, Focus news agency reported. The agreement however did not specify the manner in which this was going to be done, Mihailov said.
Mihailov said there were other violations related to the execution of the agreement that would make him request the dismissal of Nikolov.
Boyana Film’s privatisation strategy was approved in 2001. According to the document the studios would maintain their status of national film producer and would become an entity of importance for the region.
The Privatisation Agency selected Nu Image Bulgaria as the buyer of 95 per cent of Boyana Film’s capital in 2005. Another company taking part in the tender, Bavaria Film, said it was going to appeal the selection.
Court decided to give the studios to Nu Image as Bavaria Film’s appeal was tabled after the term allowed for such procedures, Focus reported.
