The Bourgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline will bypass the Sozopol bay, Deputy Regional Development Minister Kalin Rogachev said.
Rogachev’s statement came in response to a petition Sozopol municipality launched against the pipeline project. According to municipal officials, pollution resulting from petroleum discharge will affect tourism in the region.
It was unclear where municipal officials learned from that part of the project would pass through the Sozopol bay, Rogachev told Focus news agency.
Bourgas-Alexandroupolis will be executed in the region of Bourgas, Rogachev said. He said that negative reactions were to be expected.
Bulgaria had interest to participate in the project, which was going to bring it various benefits, Rogachev said. In case a failure occurred, Bulgaria could demand compensation and could control the process, he said.
