A decision of current Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov to select and support an independent presidential candidate could lead to interesting developments in the upcoming presidential elections, data of the National Public Opinion Centre (NPOC) shows.
Developments in the presidential elections, scheduled for October 22, depended on Borissov’s decision to take part or to refrain from involvement, NPOC said.
A number of voters said they were uncertain of their final decision since it was still unknown if Borissov would participate in the elections, Focus news agency reported.
If Borissov decided to run for president, he was expected to reach a second elections round. The other candidate to receive significant support was current President Georgi Purvanov, NPOC said.
In case Borissov refrained from participation, a number of Bulgarians could lose motivation to vote for an alternative to Purvanov, Focus reported.
Realistic prognoses could be made in the end of September or beginning of October, NPOC said.
