Bulgaria's young chess star Kiprian Berbatov, cousin of Manchester United player Dimitar Berbatov, will open the two-day Sofia City Festival on October 11 2008 at noon at Zaimov Park (formerly Oborishte Park).
Kiprian Berbatov, who is U12 European Chess champion for 2008, will introduce the event together with Sofia mayor, Boiko Borissov. The event takes place under the patronage of Sofia municipality.
Organisers have planned, among other events, an improvisation open podium for young talents, adrenaline sports facilities, a book exchange meeting point, a chess booth and a rope walking city construction over the park. Salsa with a Pambos Dancing Centre and a karaoke will entertain afternoon visitors on the first day.
Day two begins with a chess game between the tour winner of the previous day and Kiprian Berbatov. Martial arts fans can enjoy a demonstration and a workshop. Art Studio Kambana presents two children's plays.
Sofia City Festival will be a quarterly event, Galia Krasimirova from Sofia Municipality told The Sofia Echo. The January festival is in its planning phase.
