Dimitar Berbatov will act as team captain in the upcoming Euro 2008 qualification against Albania on March 28, national team coach Hristo Stoichkov said.

“Berbatov will be captain. Concerning Stilian Petrov, I do not know why he chose to quit the team some time ago,” Stoichkov told national private channel bTV.

Stoichkov said that he had some difficult conversations with Petrov but these were already part of the past.

Fans should accept the return of Petrov to the team, Stoichkov said as quoted by Focus news agency. “Our team does not have a leader, all footballers have such role,” he said.

Stoichkov praised Berbatov’s performance for Tottenham. At the moment Berbatov was the face of Bulgarian football abroad, Stoichkov said.

The National Bulgarian team is full of talent and very good players although they cannot play very well together as they do not spend enough time training as a team that wants to win! There is too much money involved and playing for the big clubs instead of having a positive attitude on the players is making their heads grow BIG. Instead of sharing the experience and playing as one, they play selfishly and as individuals. 1994 was prime examples of a team that wanted to win and had the experience from playing for foreign clubs, the players attitude was to win and they did this I would not see happen again in my life time I don’t think. I really think our young players should learn and give their best and play as one. I am hoping that they will pass this year's qualifying rounds and be at their best, for them self’s as a team and for their country.
