Berbatov agent confirms Man United interest

Emil Danchev, agent to Bulgarian captain Dimitar Berbatov, confirmed media reports that Manchester United have renewed their interest to sign Tottenham Hotspur's want-away striker, but would not say whether and official bid has been made.

Speaking to Bulgarian radio station Gong on July 12, Danchev said: "I know for certain that Manchester United are interested in Dimitar Berbatov, but I cannot comment on anything else."

Reports in British press at the weekend have claimed that the Manchester club put in a bid of 20 million pounds sterling (25 million euro), which has been rejected. The White Hart Lane club, however, could settle for 25 million pounds (31.2 million euro), five million less than the price tag at the beginning of the summer, British newspaper The Guardian reported on July 13.

Sunday tabloid News of the World, however, reported that Manchester United and Tottenham had already struck a 24 million pound (30 million euro) deal, which was delayed only for Spurs to find a replacement striker for Berbatov.

Berbatov is believed to want to join the reigning European champions and has been a target for Manchester United, the club that made a late approach to derail his transfer to Tottenham in 2006, since last summer.

Since joining the London club for 10.9 million pounds (13.6 million euro), Berbatov has scored 23 goals in each of his two seasons in the English Premier League.
