BEACH INSPECTIONS BEGIN IN BULGARIA
09:00 Fri 04 Aug 2006

Beach inspections in Bulgaria were about to get started due to the poor condition of some facilities, Bourgas deputy regional governor Georgi Nikolchev said.

Tourists complained about the hygiene level of the beaches, Dnevnik newspaper reported.

The regional governor set up a special permanent committee to review the grievances of tourists related to the condition of beaches.

One of the biggest problems revolved around illegal construction on the beach. Another problem was the availability of water jets, which already harmed several tourists, Dnevnik newspaper reported.

Regional administration, however, could not deal with larger beaches that were given on concession.

In the beginning of the year the Regional Development Ministry fined the concessionaire of Sunny Beach’s northern beach due to the setting up of 15 illegal constructions.

A total of 59 beaches in the southern coastal region were inspected already. A number of violations were registered and the imposition of fines was expected.
