Some of Bulgaria's most famous athletes demanded new sports regulations in a letter to the head of the State Youth and Sports Agency Vessela Lecheva.
Athletes called for new ways of sponsoring and funding Bulgarian sports, BGNES Sport agency reported.
The letter was not simply a call but offered some viable proposals, athletes said in their address.
New laws on physical education in schools and sport activities were needed. Regulations used at the moment dated back to 1996 and were out of date, the letter said.
Current means of financing threatened the future of Bulgaria's sports. A separate budget was needed to make sports in Bulgaria financially independent, the letter said.
Among the athletes who signed the letter are sprinter Ivet Lalova, shooting competitors Taniu Kiriakov and Maria Grozdeva, head of rhythmic gymnastics club Levski Neshka Robeva and rhythmic gymnastics competitor Iliana Raeva among many.
Further signatures to the letter are expected, as the campaign continues.
