ANOTHER SUICIDE IN BULGARIA'S INTELLIGENCE RAISES SUSPICIONS

A technician working for Bulgaria's intelligence committed suicide on December 14 2006. His death raised suspicions of something wrong happening in the service.

Sofia regional military prosecution was investigating the case, mediapool.bg said as quoting an intelligence service press release.

The man shot himself while on duty and later died. No signs of abuse were found on his body. He left a suicide note stating that the decision was based on 'personal reasons regarding his health,' mediapool.bg said.

Parliament Internal Security and Public Order Committee deputy chair Borislav Bulgarinov told mediapool.bg that the committee would discuss the case on December 15.

The situation had to be discussed with intelligence head Kircho Kirov, Bulgarinov said. Committing suicide was becoming a practice in the intelligence, he said.

Intelligence archive director Bozhidar Doichev also committed suicide in November 2006. According to the official information he killed himself because of personal reasons. Doichev's family said that he lacked suicidal or depression symptoms.

Doichev's death rose a scandal because authorities kept it a secret more than 24 hours, mediapool.bg said.
