A bike parade will take place in Sofia on May 15 to mark the 10th annual World Day for Action against Climate Change, Bikevolution association said in a media statement.
The event is organized by the non-governmental organisations Bikevolution (www.bikevolution-bg.org), Bikearea (www.bikearea.org), Cooperation for Voluntary Service Bulgaria (CVS, http://cvs-bg.org/) and Za Zemiata (For the Earth).
The bike procession will gather participants at the Ariana Lake at 6pm, from where it will start at 6.30pm. It will pass by Evlogi Georgiev, Tsar Osvoboditel and Vassil Levski boulevards, Vassil Levski Monument, Moskovska, Rakovski and Graf Ignatiev streets, and Patriarh Evtimii boulevard. At 7.30pm, the bike parade is planned to reach the National Palace of Culture, from where it will continue on Vitosha boulevard and Knyaz Alexander Batenberg street until it reaches the gardens in front of Ivan Vazov National Theatre at 8.30pm.
An information stand will be available at Patriarh Evtimii square from 2pm until 8pm. There, citizens can make proposals for bicycle lane routes to be built in Sofia, which Bikevolution will then submit to the city hall.
“Again on May 15, because it is the World Day for Action against Climate Change - but much more importantly, in order to be able to breathe normally in our city, to have bicycle lanes and not be run over, for our mayor to notice us and because of many more reasons - Bikevolution, CVS, Bikearea, For the Earth and you, together we will celebrate our right of place on the streets of Sofia,” the media statement said.
Hundreds of cyclists are expected to take part in the event, which attracted more than 500 cyclists and other participants in 2007.
