ANCIENT CITY FOUND IN BULGARIA'S SAMOKOV

Archaeologist working in the Shishmanovo Kale region close to Samokov found constructions belonging to an ancient city.

A fort wall was unearthed in the region. According to archaeologists it protected the populated area of an ancient city.
 
Parts of another fortified wall were found as well, Darik Radio reported. Such protection signified the amount to which the ancient city was economically developed

According to archaeologists the finds dated back to the third century. During the excavation works the team recovered coins and jewelry from the seventh century.

Archaeologists are already unearthing a huge public building, Darik reported.

Excavation works in Shishmanovo Kale started in 2004. Samokov municipality provides the funds needed for the project.
