Bulgarias air carriers and airports will continue being incapable of online tickets trading for at least one year and will hinder tourism developments, Aleksandra Ilieva, representative of Association of Bulgarian Tour Operators and Travel Agents (ABTTA) said.
The lack of technical equipment and insufficient number of contracts for online tickets recognition between the air companies were the main reasons for the delay, she said as quoted by Bulgarian news agency BTA.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) decided that by January 1 2008 all air carriers should switch to online ticket commerce.
Bulgarias aviation market was rather small and its size also hindered the growth of the tourism sector.
Tourists leaving from airports outside Sofia would have difficulties to get tickets, Ilieva said. They might prefer to buy tickets from third party tour operators.
