Children living in orphanages for more than one year could be adopted without the permission of their actual parents according to suggested amendments to adoption regulations.
Novinar newspaper quoted Labour and Social Policy Minister Emilia Maslarova as saying that large number of parents left their children in orphanages and never looked for them again.
Maslarova presented on August 16 the work of the ministry since it started its term in office one year ago.
According to data from the Labour and Social Policies Ministry 2283 people applied for adoption. Since the beginning of the year 326 children have been adopted, Novinar reported.
The number of adopted children was 2277, the same data said. Nearly 1270 children with disabilities were adopted, Novinar reported.
