ACCELERATION: Volvo XC 60 concept

It has a place of honour in Bulgarian motoring tradition as the first concept model ever shown in Bulgaria.

This transpired just a few months before the model’s world premiere at the Detroit Motor Show.

The Volvo XC 60 Concept was a one-off manufacture, worth millions of euro and dedicated to touring around the world visiting only the major motor vehicle expos.

After the huge success achieved by the Swedish company with the premium off-road XC90, Volvo decided to enter the fastest growing and developing segment: compact SUVs. This was how the XC60 was born. It combines the best traditions of the two types of vehicles – the strong, muscular SUV and the elegant and sexy coupe. The model’s role as a prototype is to trace the line of development for future Volvo models’ design. These new models will be even more expressive with the sidelights placed at a big angle. The aggressive headlights are combined with a trapezoid grille incorporated into what now seems to be a bigger “iron mark”.

The door to the boot appears as if it going to join with the coupe the same way that it does in C30 model.

The Volvo XC60 Concept is one of the few vehicle concepts displaying radical changes that is to go into serial production. This is expected to happen in 2009.

The model’s biggest advantage will be the incorporated City Safety system, thanks to which many low-speed collisions will be avoided.
