Despite the fact that spa and beauty salons are springing up around Bulgaria’s cities at any price and at any rate, the observant eye of a connoisseur, I might say, will instantly spot out the good stuff from the not-so-good stuff.

Angel Face is such a good spot. It is situated in the southern part of Sofia, off Kozyak Street, just minutes away from the famous governmental hospital, aka Lozenets University Hospital, and the US embassy.

Even at first glance Angel Face has a promising, luxurious, rather modern facade, an impression, which, more importantly, is confirmed on the inside. It is lavishly lit up, with a smiling and welcoming staff. Significant to point out is that the staff is not too highly conceited, as being the weird phenomenon at a number of the so-called boutiques in Sofia, where the so-called shop consultants have a repelling air around them of something like: “I-am-the-boss-here-so-do-not-disturb-me”.

Moreover, on entering this heavenly retreat, the staff really hovers around you like real angels, but without being the other extreme, ie, too nosy and gossipy, as is the stereotypical image of the hairdresser around the world.

Inside already, you might wait your turn in a cosy lobby with a plasma monitor, fashion magazines and a cup of coffee offered to you by the staff, while they chat with you in a light and easy way.

After the lobby or the reception area is the corridor that leads to the so-called “delights” – like before the inside door, behind, too, is modernly lit with neon and metal elements and purple and pink shades with meditation and water pictures on the walls. You really enter into the realm of heavenly procedures, or more likely the angel faces usher you in.

The procedures are namely: face massage, face cleansing procedures of numerous types, Italian waxing, anti-cellulite procedures, manicure, pedicure (it is worth mentioning the pedicure – it has a special massage lounge chair for it, a miniature feet jacuzzi, for a foot massage, etc); other procedures are the solarium, the sauna with aromatherapy, massages of various types, body spa, hair-dresser, piercings and make-up artist, plus a collection of creams to be sold by the Spanish brand Belnatur, which are made from natural ingredients.

The prices are normal, just a little above the average, something between 10 to 60 leva, depending on how you decide to treat yourself. But they are 100 per cent worth it.

Angel Face is a relatively new place, opening in 2006. The brand is originally from Varna, and they have a salon there, too. You might say that it is a typical Varna product, ie, of the successful ones – such as the Happy Bar & Grill chain and Piccadilly supermarkets. Sure, Angel Face has not got the wide-spread name recognition of Happy or Piccadilly yet, but we wish it had so, and we wish it good luck, for it really deserves it.
