Twelve flights were transferred from Sofia Airport to Plovdiv Airport during the night because of thick fog, representatives of Plovdiv Airport told Focus News Agency on November 22.
Thick fog covered parts of the country, mainly around Kurdjali, Kyustendil, Lom, Oryahovo, Pleven, Rousse, Sofia, Svishtov, Vidin and Vratsa. In Sofia the fog caused traffic problems, while roads were slippery with ice, Focus News Agency said.
The Bulgarian national football team landed in Plovdiv instead of Sofia during the night because of the fog, Dnevnik daily said.
Later on Focus News Agency announced that planes were taking off and landing at both terminals of Sofa Airport. The decision to transfer flights to Plovdiv Airport had not been taken by Sofia Airport's management, the press centre of the airport told Focus News Agency.
According to the airport's website, incoming flights from Athens, Budapest, Berlin and Bari were cancelled, as well as outgoing flights to Vienna, Athens, Bari, Berlin, Budapest and Milan.
