The heads of delegation of the European Parliament Group’s 10 eastern and central European member states sent an open letter to the president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, on April 25, demanding an end to discriminatory actions directed towards Central and Eastern European citizens.

Bulgarian MEP Andreay Kovachev also signed the letter which alludes to anti-immigrant websites launched by the Dutch Freedom Party and the Belgian far-right Vlaams Belang party.

The letter expresses concerns that discrimination contravenes fundamental European values and makes "second-class citizens of Central and Eastern European citizens".
