Eleven Bulgarian companies are to be fined a combined total of more than 424 000 leva (212 000 euro) for under-performance in clearing snow from national roads in November and December 2011.

This was announced by the Road Infrastructure Agency, local news agency Focus said.

The companies had not done their jobs adequately even though there had not been significant snowfall during that time, the agency said.

The 11 companies are in charge of winter road maintenance in 10 road management districts – Blagoevgrad, Veliko Turnovo, Pleven, Plovdiv, Razgrad, Rousse, Sliven, Turgovishte, Yambol and Pernik.

The results of the agency’s inspection of the work of road cleaning companies in January will be ready at the beginning of March.
