Female wrestler Stanka Zlateva was crowned Bulgarian sports personality of the year at a glittering award ceremony at NDK hosted by British actor Ben Cross.

Zlateva, who recently won a fifth world title, defeated swimmer Petar Stoychev. Wrestler Elis Guri was declared third.

Zlateva, now 28, was the first female wrestler to represent Bulgaria at the Olympics when the sport debuted in Athens in 2004, finishing in 12th position. At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, she narrowly lost to Wang Jiao of the People's Republic of China in the final.

Ruzhdi Ruzhdi was named best Bulgarian disabled athlete of 2011. Bulgaria's women's rhythmic gymnastics team, which won gold in the 3 ribbons/2 hoops discipline final at the World Championship in Montpellier, France, received the team of the year award.

The winners were chosen by sports journalists from different Bulgarian media.
