Bulgarian police reported that a stuntman working on the movie The Expendables 2 has been killed and another injured and taken to hospital after an accident on the Ognyanovo dam near Elin Pelin.

The accident took place when the two men, both reported in the Bulgarian media to be foreigners, were performing a stunt involving an explosion in a rubber boat on the dam.  The individuals concerned were members of the film's second unit stunt team. The film's main unit were reportedly shooting in Bansko, two-and-a-half hours away, at the time.

The injured stuntman is in stable condition, but is unconscious, according to hospital sources reported in the Bulgarian media which has also reported that he was in intensive care.

The stuntman, who was admitted with multiple injuries, is said to be on artificial respiration and under close observation. He reportedly underwent a five-hour long operation on the night of October 27 in which heart and stomach surgeons, orthopedicians and urologists all took part.

Shooting on the Expendables 2, an $80 million production, started several weeks ago and is due to continue until December.

Nu Image/Millennium Films have released the following statement regarding the tragedy.

"It is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate accident," a spokesperson said. "Our hearts go out to the families and those on the production affected by this tragedy. The filmmakers are working closely with the authorities in responding to and investigating this accident."
