National carrier Bulgaria Air has withdrawn all flights booked by tour company Alma Tours and cancelled all seats booked by the company to Moscow and St Petersburg because the company allegedly has failed to pay seven million leva (about 3.5 million euro) in arrears debts.

All other Bulgaria Air flights to Russia were being carried out as scheduled, Bulgaria Air said in a statement on its website.

Bulgaria Air said that it apologised to passengers using the services of the tour company and advised them to contact the travel agency to deal with inquiries.

Russian news agencies reported on September 9 2011 that about 300 passengers were unable to fly on a charter flight from Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Bourgas to St Petersburg because the flight had been suspended indefinitely because of unpaid debts.

Russian consular officials reportedly said that there were negotiations between the airline and the tour company to resolve the issue.
