Plovdiv saw state ceremonies and military re-enactments on September 6 2011, as the city led national celebrations of Unification Day, which commemorates the 1885 episode in which Bulgarians rejected the post-Berlin Congress state of "Eastern Roumelia" to re-unify the country.
