The Confederation of the Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria (CEIBG) was scheduled to elect a new chairman and executive board members at its general meeting on November 4 2010.

Ivo Prokopiev, co-publisher of Dnevnik daily and Capital weekly, headed the organisation two terms of two years each.

Together with co-chairmen Sasha Bezuhanova and Lukan Lukanov, they cannot be re-elected, as stipulated in the organisation's by-laws.

CEIBG, whose members provide for two-thirds of Bulgaria's gross domestic product (GDP), will also elect, by secret ballot, new members of its management and supervisory board for a two-year term of office.

The organisation's management board has 23 members, including executives of banks and law firms, managers of consulting, construction and pharmaceutical companies, as well as representatives of firms active in the financial, insurance industry and IT sector.

CEIBG represents more than 9000 companies, which employ more than 700 000 people and account for 75 per cent of the country's exports. It incorporates 45 professional organisations and has 66 regional representative offices nationwide.
