Bulgaria’s Economy Ministry said on October 25 that it had taken away the licences of 105 local tour operators because they had not renewed their mandatory liability insurance or had failed to inform the ministry that they had renewed their insurance.

According to the published list, most of the companies banned from providing travel services are relatively small, of which most are registered in Sofia or in cities on the Black Sea.

In August, according to the registry of tour operators and travel agents, more than 25 per cent of the tour operators registered in the country failed to obey regulations requiring them to renew their insurance policies each year and to inform the Economy Ministry.

The ministry said that in many cases, companies had signed insurance policies, but had not submitted notifications.

The ministry had carried out a thorough check of the sector and companies that had not submitted notifications had been warned that their licences would be revoked.
