Bulgarian police carried out a special operation codenamed "The Paedophiles", Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov was reported as saying by Bulgarian news agency Focus.

The operation was worked out by the Federal Criminal Police Office in Wiesbaden and the Directorate-Generale for Countering Organised Crime, Tsvetanov said.

The operation was aimed against the trade in paedophile movies involving children aged six, seven and eight.

By late in the evening on October 21, five people had been detained. More than 200 movies with paedophile content have been seized, Tsvetanov said.

Police searches were conducted in the cities of Pleven and Plovdiv, as well as the residential districts of Krasna Polyana, Lyulin, Mladost and Darvenitsa in Bulgaria's capital city Sofia.

On October 22, it emerged that one of those arrested was a juror in the trial of alleged drug boss Zlatomir "Zlato Baretata" Ivanov, Focus said. The arrest meant that a hearing in the trial of Ivanov had to be postponed, Sofia City Court said.

100% in favor of this action! Now, for convictions, heavy sentences, and destruction of the movies. Our children and society must be protected.

While I applaud the action (although a more discreet codename might have helped cover its intent) it does sound more as if they were trying to disrupt a jury in order to get Ivanov off.
