Bulgarian firefighters will be decorated for their contribution to extinguishing wildfires in the district of Moscow on August 19 2010, Bulgarian media reported.

A total of 95 Bulgarian firefighters were sent to Russia to tackle the crisis. Their mission will end on August 19, and they are set to receive awards from the Moscow municipality and the local government.

Earlier this month, Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin expressed his gratitude to his Bulgarian counterpart Boiko Borissov for the assistance which Bulgaria provided in quelling raging infernos in Russia, Bulgarian media reported.

According to the report, Putin rated the performance of the Bulgarian detachment very highly. During his phone conversation with Borissov, Putin praised their professionalism and dedication.

Bulgarian fire-fighters commissioned to fight Russian forest fires have been operating over a 20km stretch near the town of Likino-Dulevo, the Bulgarian Interior Ministry said in a media statement on August 9 2010.

They were seriously engaged over the weekend near the towns of Likino-Dulevo and Noginsk.

On August 8, the Bulgarian team managed to extinguish a fire that came within two km of the town and threatened to destroy the nearby village of Yazvishte.
