Russian tourists are flocking to the Bulgarian Black Sea coast in greater numbers as "an increase of interest" is being reported by Russian tour operators.

In June 2010, about 72 000 Russian tourists came to Bulgaria, 23.9 per cent more than in June 2009, Dnevnik daily said on August 5 2010.

"According to our current calculations, sales have gone up by between 20 and 25 per cent. An increase in interest for Bulgaria is also reported by other tour operators, not just our firm," Elena Andrievskaya, head of the ICS Travel department for Bulgaria, told Dnevnik.

She said that although 60 per cent of the firm's clients visit the north Bulgarian coast, there was also an increasing number of inquiries and applications for the south coast as well, particularly the Dyuni resort.

Another tour operator, Solvex, also accounted for a surge of applications from 20 up to 30 per cent this summer, while "all packages for August already have been sold".

The reason why Russian tourists are attracted by Bulgaria's summer delights this year, according to the report, is that local hoteliers have not raised their prices from last season. Additionally, the Bulgarians had extended the period in which the Russians were able to book preliminary packages for their hotels.

Bulgarian tour operators said that most Russians were attracted to hotels "om the front line" as in, close to the sea front. They were also attracted predominantly by packages that offered "all inclusive" deals.

Ok the BG saw side may be slightly crude and lacking in historic sites, but it's VERY tourist friendly.

We are in France in Menton, making our way south/west, and for all it's beauty and culture (increadible taste in everything they do) there are things missing to a Bulgarian.
First, very few hotels want to be involved with your parking issues - everything is full (all 5 hotel spaces) so good luck!

Not only that, but many don't even have the front entrance where you could park to check for [...]

Read the full comment availability - we are driving and deliberately decided not to plan ahead and chace a program.

Second, I do miss the beautiful women one sees at the BG resorts. Perhaps as we move down to St. Tropez and the likes that will change, but so far a bit dry.

It's expensive.
We were expecting that, so it isn't as bad as it could've been but in BG for $100 one could have a very nice room for the family on "the first lane".
I am paying 3 times that and it's really nothing special except the view from the hotel, which is amazing.

For a sea vacation BG is unbeatable!
If you want history and architecture, Italy and France have no competition.
It depends what you are after.

A place to be seen...

In a promise
there's the
light that
always remains
like a delicate
leaf in the
dark of a forest,
and there, in
your eyes, I
see beautiful
skies and a tender
relief.
