Brown bear
Residents were left bewildered when the animal descended in the village late in the evening on July 22 and went to the village square, looking for food.
The Bulgarian Environment Ministry has authorised police and park rangers to hunt down and kill the bear which attacked a woman and left her critically wounded.
Local residents believe that there are more than 280 bears in the area but experts in the field say that the exact number cannot be determined.

No doubt. Isn't it a strange coincidence that the hunting lobby here have been arguing that hunters should be allowed to "control the numbers" and got turned down, and now miraculously, bears are turning up and attacking people. the timing is immaculate. if you go onto one of the online hunting sites for BG and look at what is charged for hunting different species you won't believe your eyes - there's plenty of money there....all to kill animals in the name of sport...
No doubt those big "men" from the BKP cadre will be out with their guns at the weekend...
