The construction sector in Bulgaria marked a 16.6 per cent drop in May 2010 on an annual basis, and a 3.7 per cent monthly decline, the National Statistics Institute (NSI) said on July 8 2010.

The year-on-year decline is attributed to a nearly 25 per cent drop in real estate construction and a 0.4 per cent drop in infrastructure construction, the report said. On a monthly basis, the drop was 3.1 per cent and 4.4 per cent, respectively.

For the first five months of 2010, the sector declined by 23.6 per cent compared to the same period of 2009, NSI said. Real estate construction dropped by 32.4 per cent, while infrastructure construction was down 5.4 per cent.
