Water levels of the Danube are receding along the entire Bulgarian stretch – except Silistra in the north-east, Bulgarian media said on June 6 2010.

The Civil Protection Service said that the water ;level had decreased by as much as 30cm in Vidin and the surrounding region to the north-west of Bulgaria. Elsewhere, the decrease averaged 20cm.

The water near the pumping stations in Lom also has receded, so there was no danger of contamination, Dnevnik daily reported.

However, there will be constant surveillance of the level of the Danube around Rousse, where the river remains at near-critical level at 813cm. Further, near Svishtov the water is at 797cm and in Silistra at just more than 800cm, media reports said.

Water levels been rising steadily for the past few weeks while weather forecasts say that more rain is coming this week.
