This year's summer season in Bulgaria's ski resort of Borovets will be launched with a new attraction, the Borovets mountain bike park, a June 7 2010 media statement said.

The park has specially marked trails through the forest - about 20km long - with varying degrees of difficulty catering to different proficiencies. According to the media statement, there are no age limits and children are welcome provided they have a guardian and wear a helmet.

The park's pride is the downhill slope, about 2200m in length, and a 400m vertical drop from start to finish. It is said to be only for professionals because it is extremely hard, "designed for a maximum adrenaline rush".

Borovets mountain bike park will be serviced by the Sitnyakovo express lift. Daily passes for the park will be sold at 20 leva, the report said.

The official inauguration of the 2010 summer season will take place on June 19.

Borovets is a Bulgarian mountain resort within the Sofia region on the northern slopes of Rila, at an altitude of 1350m, about 10km from Samokov, 73km from Sofia and 125km from Plovdiv.

It is the oldest Bulgarian winter resort dating back to1896, established as a hunting place for Bulgarian kings. Gradually it developed into a modern ski resort complete with many hotels, restaurants, bars.
