Row over Serbians crossing border into Kosovo

A centre-right minority party has requested a snap debate in parliament in Pristina about repeated violations of Kosovo’s sovereignty by Serbian officials – just days after European Union rule-of-law mission Eulex was quoted as saying that it would fully implement existing procedures for Serbians wanting to visit Kosovo.
Media reports in Kosovo about the Eulex announcement were ill-received in Belgrade, given that Serbia declines to recognise as legitimate the February 2008 unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo.
While most EU states recognise Kosovo as independent, five out 27 do not and the bloc maintains a "status-neutral" policy position on Kosovo.
According to Kosovo media reports, Eulex said that it would stop an unauthorised visits by Serbian officials as of May 26 2010.
Pristina daily Koha Ditore said that there had been a "record" number of unauthorised entries by Serbian officials on May 25, and that the Serbian visits had stoked tensions in the northern part of Kosovo.
Behar Selimin, the acting head of the Kosovo police, was quoted as saying that he was unable to stop Serbian officials entering the country and said that Eulex had been admitting them without conducting proper checks.
Separately, the newspaper quoted Albert Rohan, a former mediator in the Kosovo status talks, as saying the plans for Serbia to hold northern Mitrovica – the ethnically-divided town that is among the main bones of contention between Kosovo and Belgrade – were illegal because a foreign country could not hold elections on the territory of another state.
Balkan Insight quoted Eulex spokesperson Karin Limdal as saying that the mission would be implementing "an old procedure that we agreed on some time ago".
Serbian officials who wanted to visit Kosovo had to file a request with the EU Special Representative in Belgrade and this was then forwarded to the equivalent office in Pristina.
Serbian news website B92 quoted Serbia’s minister for Kosovo, Oliver Ivanovic, as saying that Eulex could not prohibit Serbian officials from visiting Kosovo because Eulex did not have the mandate to do so. He said that Serbian officials respected all procedures and gave advance notice of their visits, not to get permission, but to have an escort.

Dardani Iliri Albani Spartani Moreni Epiri Macedoni ect ect were used to be governed usualy as fudual monarchys. It was with Romans than later Germanic and Slavik barbarian invasions that the monotonous people of the place got the best parts of survival, mainly mountains and coast.

Alexander was a Macedonian and Macedonians were and remain today a Hellenic people (the people in northern Greece). Macedonia was a geographical region whose land base covers modern day Greece, FYROM/Vardaska, Albania, Serbia and Bulgaria with by far the largest part (52%) being still in Greece. I do not understand why my comments were removed. They were respectful and unemotional. All I requested for was for someone to provide me with a reference to some valid evidence to show that Kosovo always belonged to the Albanians.
And this is very much on topic for the article above. We are discussing Kosovo.

Didn't think that EULEX could implement something like this when they are under UN mandate and UN has a little paper called Res 1244 which is still in force.
The Kosovo Government and the international Community is playing a waiting game, but i don't know how long they can wait for? in the hope that as Serbia moves closer to the EU, its grip on northern Kosovo will loosen, and kosovo authorities take charge over time, but i wonder will the peoples attitude in northern kosovo change in due time towards integration into kosovo, or will they continue separatists agendas without Serbia's "official" support, in the hope of at least gaining autonomy within Kosovo, which will be very dangerous, as it will mean another unstable Bosnia style country in [...]

No Adam, what matters is international law. It's like saying the only thing that matters are the crooks who stole property from someone else regardless of what the law says.
If UN or EU don't recognize Kosovo as a country what makes it legal then? Just the fact that KLA and NATO are occupying it at present?

EULEX is deployed there as status neutral and should stick to it.
If 2/3 of the world sees Kosovo as part of Serbia then how are Serbian official supposed to be stopped from entering their own territory?
UN doesn't recognize Kosovo and neither does EU as a body so EULEX has no right to make that decision.
Again 2/3 of the world says Kosovo is Serbia. Do we believe in majority rules (democracy) or do we believe in US style of democracy (might is right)?
Serbia needs to stop interfering in its neighbor's internal affairs ! We've had 20 years of war, instability, isolation, and poverty because of Belgrade's insistence of using Serbs living in neighboring countries as pawns in their little power games. It's time to put an end to this self-defeating practice and to move forwards as a "normal" and respectable country instead of being a local bully and pariah state.
This sounds to me like nonsense. Albanian officials don't need special permission, Macedonian officials don't need special permission, etc. So why should Serbian officials do so? This sounds like discrmination. Besides that, Kostunica, about whom there was most upheaval, is not a Serbian official. His only status is that of parlemantarian.
I can't help myself, but it is interesting to see how gradually Serbia surrenders to reality.
